Wax resist with acrylic paint wash on the pages, signatures are sewn on tinted linen tapes, inch thick covers are made from several layers of book board.

The book is comprised of hand-painted and solid paper signatures - sorted, compiled and sewn to create color fields on the spine of the book. The colors allude to the extremes of light and dark and hues that emerge at dawn and dusk in the far north.

Susan Joy Share‘s artwork explores the potential of the physical book and it’s animation. She has been making and performing with her handmade books for over 35 years. Her work is in collections at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Anchorage Museum. Share has exhibited and performed throughout the US and in England, Ireland and Hungary. She currently lives in Anchorage, Alaska.
