Cathryn Miller Grasswood, Saskatchewan, Canada
found book, book cloth, cotton rag paper, book board 7 x 7 x 10 closed; variable open © 2011 $1200 This work is part of an on-going series in which I explore the human need to quantify the world, the drive to count and name everything as a show of control. In making these works I take existing popular science books and re-configure them into objects that reveal the content of the text and images in a new way. The subject matter of the book determines the final reconstructed form. All of the books I alter are destined for recycling: I give them a second life. Pages are cut and folded into Froebel stars and are contained in three hand made boxes. Cathryn Miller has worked in the book arts for more than 15 years, and as a book artist for the last eight. Her works are held in public and private collections in Canada, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and the United States. |
