Erin Sweeney Peterborough, New Hampshire
(recipient Bridwell Art Library, University of Louisville Purchase Award) muslin, cardboard, embroidery floss, dominos, paper 30 x 24 x 12 © 2011 SOLD My work for the past four years has centered on ideas of building community, storytelling, and home. I use printmaking, people’s stories, and the book form in non-traditional ways to create books, sculpture and installations. I am currently exploring a new step in my line of inquiry, focusing on the question ”what is worth preserving?” I am experimenting with my notions of things I think worth preserving: in a broad sense, my preoccupations continue in the direction of language, storytelling, oral history, the book itself, penmanship, conversation. I am focused on the stories that are directly around me, as well as themes of small town and family. This piece particularly embodies my friendship with two friends from graduate school. Erin Sweeney produces work and teaches out of her Lovely In The Home Press in New Hampshire. She received her MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Sweeney exhibits nationally, and was recently an artist-in-residence at Maine College of Art’s Pace House and at Cló Ceardlann in Donegal, Ireland. |
