Linda Carreiro Calgary, Alberta, Canada Passage “Roland Barthes, in The Pleasure of the Text, reminds readers that ‘text’ means ‘tissue,’ something that is threaded and woven together. This suggests that language possesses visceral, tactile qualities, particularly notable during speech and inscription. Building from this premise, my interest is to portray language as a formable substance, highlighting its tangible, tissuous properties.” The work alters the original book into a form that reiterates the derivation of the word text from texta, meaning ”tissue.” The text has been incised and bored, rendered illegible.
