Pages sewn on tapes with dimensional wooden covers. Front cover is multi-dimensional wood with original painting behind mica. Inside back cover has recessed area with metal, wire and mica. Text block is of handmade paper/mixed media in a wrap-around format devised to expose only glimpses of each page until the wrappers are opened. Text is a series of anecdotes around various quests for the mineral Mica. With contributions from Heidi Zednik 8 x 5.25 x 1 inches closed. Unique book.

About this Book - Plant Identification

Working with images and artifacts from my great-aunt Ruth’s archive, this rigid page book is sewn across the spine coptic style and has double layer wood covers. Behind a round opening in the front cover and in the inside back cover is a collage of plant material, text overlaid with mica. Pages are a combination of photographs, images and notes from various notebooks, output via digital inkjet, and clear plastic pages with various plant material embedded. 11 double sided pages.3.75 x 3.5 x 1.25 inches closed. Unique book.

Artist Biography

Alicia Bailey is a studio artist working across multiple disciplines. She has focused on book arts and assemblage for the past fourteen years, producing artists’ books, sculptural books, and limited-edition books. Her work embraces a wide variety of methods and materials. Alicia’s emphasis is consistently a treatment of book as interactive sculpture. Her work has been featured in dozens of solo and group exhibits throughout the world and is held in numerous public, private, and special collections.
