About this Book

The book combines ink jet printed photographs with letterpress printed text and images on Lana Aquarelle. The fonts are Garamond and Gill Sans Light. The binding is drum leaf with covers of Hahnemuhle Ingres and spine of Japanese bookcloth. The box, a modified clamshell covered in Japanese bookcloth, was constructed by Jana Pullman. The dimensions are 5 x 9 x .5 inches and there are 20 pages. Edition of 20.

Artist Statement

Through dual narratives and visual abstractions paired with altered photographs, Convergence speaks to the connections between past and present and how they shape our sense of time and place. Drifting through the canals of Venice, past centuries of decay, one is at once captivated and disturbed by this spectral city.

Artist Biography

Cathy Ryan is an emerging book artist and printmaker. In 2006, she completed the post baccalaureate program in print, paper, book at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and she holds a bachelors degree in art from San Francisco State University. Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. as well as internationally, and is in numerous private collections. She lives and works in Minneapolis where she currently serves on the board of directors of the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and is a member of the MCBA artist cooperative.
