This is a free-standing book sculpture. I’d been working with shredding prints of landscapes I’d altered digitally and making collages. My Women’s Art Workshop’s topic for the month was BOOK, so I decided to keep working with the shredding process and shred some book pages and see what happened if I worked with color, eye flow, composition using strips of text and imagery from a variety of old books. By joining two panels with a metal channel, the piece feels like a bound book.
Lori Reed grew up on a farm in Illinois where she learned to see the artistry in interesting textures and color variations in the natural world. While earning her art degree at the University of Illinois, her vision expanded to appreciate those concepts in other forms.
