The Heart Wants What it Wants

ABC11 Lauren_Faulkenberry_WhatTheHeart_1.jpgABC11 Lauren_Faulkenberry_WhatTheHeart_2.jpg

The Heart Wants What it Wants is a book in three parts: Smolder, Galvanize, and Devour. Inspired by the mythology of the Greek furies, the text explores heartache, longing, and obsession and describes how it feels to be set aflame by another. The boustrophedon structure, with its cuts and twists, underscores the fragmented nature of the relationship discussed in the text. The figures include a vixen holding a burning heart, a cock forging a heart from iron, and an alligator weighing a heart against a feather.

Letterpress printed woodcut reduction prints with text done by photopolymer plates. The structure is a boustrophedon, hardbound. This book is in three parts, housed in a clamshell box.
