“This piece was developed in response to a published lecture given by Kathleen Norris entitled, Laundry, Liturgy, and ‘Women’s Work. I wanted to explore the ideas presented in the lecture, centered around the ‘quotidian’—considering what makes up a life, what shapes it, what might hallow it. Details about the process for this book help illustrate the concept. Household dryer lint was saved and labeled from June 2005 through June 2006, fibers then mixed with water and blended, poured onto a round mould, and pressed into individual papers. Each “page” was then tucked into date-labeled vellum envelopes and organized chronologically, diary-like. The excerpt from Norris’ poem acts as an introduction to the book, providing a framing or ‘way in’ for the viewer/reader.” paper made from laundry lint, vellum sleeves, pigma pen, handmade box 3¼ x 6¼ x 9 box; 4½ x 5¾ (each) sleeved pages © 2008 this piece has been sold |
