Suzanne Sawyer Tuscaloosa, Alabama Back to Where I’d Started From “When I think of landscape, I am always reminded of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia where I grew up. Specifically, I think of my family’s land where my granddad kept bees, hunted ginseng root, tapped maple trees and built birdhouses from scrap wood. Back to Where I Started From is a sculptural book made from an altered birdhouse built by my granddad. The book is an accordion with wooden cover in the style of the original birdhouse. The small inset window on the cover is a drawing I made of ginseng root covered with mica. The text is Blue Ridge Cabin Home by Louise Certain and Gladys Stacey and is used here with permission.” Laser printed text, blind embossing, refinished birdhouse with milk paint.
