Kay S. Furman Boulder, Colorado

This journal provides me with the opportunity to experience and process the emotions and events of my life. By combining visual elements with text, I feel that I get the opportunity to know myself more completely, both my cognitive self and my spiritual-emotional self. The journal becomes a record of my life, a place where I capture my learning about myself. Often, new understandings are revealed to me as I create these pages - it’s in the words I write and the particular colors and images I choose, to express an event or experience that point me towards ever greater self-knowing. All text, drawings, and photos are by Kay Furman, with the exception of one image by Roxanne Rossi. Kay Furman has been journaling since she was eight years old. After minoring in visual arts in college with an emphasis on calligraphy, and studying traditional painting in Bali, Kay was thrilled to discover the medium of visual art journaling, which she has been doing ever since.
