FRANCE: A Mother and Daughter Travel Journal

handmade paper; found objects; linen thread; ribbon; beads

141/2 x 61/4 x 13/4 closed; 141/2 x 123/4 x 7/8

In the summer of 2006 I visited my daughter in Giverny, France. Using loose sheets of recycled art-work, we worked on pages each evening as we travelled through Paris and Chartres. Upon our return, I bound the book into a tall two-tiered structure with Paula’s pages at the head and mine at the tail. The viewer can flip through our journals together or separately, a reflection of our mother/daughter relationship and our individual/joint perceptions. FRANCE is a book of memories tied to the joy of working and traveling together.

Collage; watercolor; stencil; etchings, photos; long-stitch on ribbons; two-tiered flip book.
