The idea centered around creating written drum parts using a grid of 16 numbers and simple mathematical formulas. The panels are a direct visual interpretation of the rhythm pattern of the measures with overprinted symbols for the improvised instruments. The eight double-sided panels are hinged with an “L” shaped wire binding method that allows the panels to be read as a codex or arranged many ways. Thomas Parker Williams lives and works in Philadelphia, PA, USA. His work includes hand-made artist book editions, unique book works, printmaking, and painting. Some of his artist book editions contain an audio element - music or sound work - composed, performed, and recorded by the artist. Tom’s artist books are in numerous private and public collections, including King St. Stephen Museum, Szekesfehervar, Hungary, and Columbia University, NYC. |
