Julie Russell-SteuartReinbeck, Iowa, USA![]() ![]() Throwawaytyvek, boards, cereal box, ink, acrylic 8 x 5 x 5 © 2013 $200 Russell-Steuart’s investigation into the culture of consumerism led her to a wide range of the thrown away, from technology, natural resources, and our lives. She writes in concise poetry, accompanied by pressure print illustrations made with “throwaway” materials like cereal boxes and string. After printing and drying and folding, Russell-Steuart crumpled the printed work up into a ball as if it was something to be thrown away. Spreading it back out and refolding it became a work of salvage. Throwaway was made as part of BookArtObject, Edition 4. ![]() |
