Linda K. Johnson Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Seasons of Winter paper, paper towels, thread 15 x 7¾ x ½ closed; 30 x 7¾ x ½ open edition of 25 © 2009 I created this book from the poetic musings of a friend who lives in upstate New York. The prose chronicles winter’s harshness and wonder. It is printed on papertowels that reminded me of snow. The pages are different lengths, layered with torn fore edges to connote the sense of time passing and the observations of winter changing as the season progresses and ultimately gives way to spring. The book is bound at the top. Prose by Randy L. Mayes. Letterpress printed from handset type. Stab binding with unique sewing pattern. Linda Johnson teaches design and book arts at Florida Atlantic University. An interest in handmade papers, unique book structures, letterpress printing, and storytelling fuels her imagination and provides content for her bookworks. Her work is exhibited internationally and resides in public collections. |
